The Intelligence Ombudsman published a report on his activities in 2023. The annual report is at the same time a kind of balance sheet of the first five-year term of office of the Intelligence Ombudsman.
Due to its balance sheet nature, the main theme of the annual report is the realisation of fundamental and human rights and legal protection in civilian and military intelligence activities, says Intelligence Ombudsman Kimmo Hakonen.
In addition to the real-time overseeing of the legality of decisions on the use of intelligence gathering methods, the Intelligence Ombudsman launched a number of broader thematic inspections, including the implementation of a completely new type of intelligence collection on the network traffic and the further processing of information obtained using intelligence gathering methods.
